Ormlie Community Association was formed 12 years ago in November 1997 following an accident whereby a child was knocked down crossing the road to the park. Residents came together and undertook a consultation exercise to assess a range of issues relating to speeding cars and lack of adequate play facilities for children living on the Ormie estate. As a result of this initial incident, a regeneration project began to address a wide range of social, economic and environmental issues on the estate. The area was designated as a social inclusion area and Save the Children in Scotland developed a 4 year pilot project (Community Partners Programme) aimed at giving children and young people a voice in their community. On completion of the project Ormlie Community Association secured funding to continue the project and employs 2 members of staff to run the CPP intitiative.
Over the years a wide range of projects have been developed, completed and continued including a new £206K playarea/sports facility, small community centre and Home Zone area. Ormlie Community Association currently runs projects for young mothers, young tenants, older residents, children and young people and training initiatives. An energy project (Caithness Energy Advice) was formed over four years ago and supports tenants and householders throughout Caithness and North Sutherland to reduce energy bills and carbon emissions. The organisation has also sourced funding for a number of environmental projects throughout the Ormlie estate. We have a website www.ormlie.org which gives information about the regeneration projectc.
OCA currently employs 11 members of staff, whilst a Board of Directors oversees the governance of organisation.
OCA has won a number of organisations including:
